Zelenskiy appoints a new presidential administration

On May 20 Zelenskiy was inaugurated as president. There was much concern over who he would appoint to the cabinet since he is a political ingenue.Two people from Kvartal 95 (Zelenskiy's TV production company) have been appointed to the presidential administration. Andriy Bohdan was head of the presidential administration. Bohdan is the lawyer of an exiled billionaire named Kolomoisky who is widely perceived as the president's financial backer so Bohdan's appointment tends to confirm some suspicions. There is some doubt over the legality of Bohdan's appointment. On May 20 the Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman announced his intention to resign. He is staying until a replacement can be found. Groysman explained his decision saying he and the incoming president were unable to agreed on a common agenda. This came as a surprise to some. Groysman belongs to a party called 'Petro Poroshenko Bloc Solidary'. This made it difficult for him work with the president. Most of the cabinet are still situ including members of the Poroshenko's party. Speculation is rife over who the new prime minister will be. The cabinet has to be approved by the Rada (parliament). So far Zelenskiy's party has no one in the Rada so he has to reach out to other groups. Zelenskiy has called elections to take place in October.Ivan Bakanov who worked at Kvartal 95 has been made deputy head of the SBU (Ukrainian secret service). It is questionable whether he is suitable for the role given his total lack of relevant experience.There was noise in the Russian media that Poroshenko would be sent to prison for 16 years.
