Zelensky delivers peace plan to Turkey

On March 8 Zelensky held talks with the Turkish President. The two discussed the war, joint military manufacturing and Ukrainian food exports crossing the Black Sea. This is of interest to Turkey since it buys Ukrainian grain and the rest passes through Turkish waters. Turkey is building corvettes for Ukraine. Zelensky presented a 10-point peace plan. It involves the release of all Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians in Russia, as well as safe passage for Ukrainian exports through the Black Sea. The plan insists on Russia withdrawing all forces from Ukraine and Russia being held responsible for the war. Turkey was the venue for Ukrainian-Russian peace talks in 2022. It is unlikely that joint military manufacturing will take place. That would be too much of a provocation of Russia by Turkey. Russia is an important trade partner. Turkey is suffering very high inflation and does not wish to lose Russia as a market. Russian tourists are a key part of the tourism industry.
