Zelensky in Argentina

On December 11 Zelensky went to Argentina for the inauguration of President Milei. Milei has come out as an outspoken advocate of Ukraine's cause. Zelensky held meetings with the presidents of 3 other Latin American countries. Sympathy for Russia is greater in Latin American than in Europe. Some of Latin America is neutral on the Ukraine conflict. In Buenos Aires, Zelensky met the Prime Minister of Hungary, who was also there for Milei's inauguration. Hungary is the least sympathetic towards Ukraine of all EU countries. Hungary is said to want Ukrainian accession to the EU to be removed from the agenda for the Council of Europe meeting later in December 2023. On December 12 Zelensky will visit Washington DC. Ukraine is very worried because Republicans in the US Congress keep voting against the funding package that includes aid for Ukraine because it does not include enough money for US border security. On December 5 Zelensky cancelled his video address to US senators on short notice. He had been due to strive to persuade them to pass the funding package. The US Congress has been debating this since October 2023.
