Zelensky in France and Qatar

On June 5 the Ukrainian President met the Emir of Qatar to discuss ending the war. Qatar voted to condemn the Russian invasion but has brokered the return of some Ukrainian children from Russia. Qatar is a back channel between the warring nations. On June 6 Zelensky was in Normandy for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. There he met the leaders of France, the United States and Canada. He also spoke to Keir Starmer who is expected to become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after the UK's July 4 election. Joe Biden spoke at the commemorations. He explicitly likened the Ukraine War to World War II. Russia was not invited to the D-Day commemorations. Irrespective of the Ukraine War, the exclusion of Russia from France was perceived as a diplomatic snub and an obvious omission in terms of the historical significance of the USSR's contribution to the liberation of Europe.
