On January 10 the Ukrainian President made an unannounced visit to Vilnius where he met his Lithuanian counterpart. Ukrainian accession to NATO and the EU were on the agenda. Lithuania is a member of both. It is also a former Soviet republic. Zelensky visited the country in 2023, as well. Zelensky said he discussed electronic warfare and drones. Ukraine needs support on both. He also said what Ukraine needs post is more air defense. He said Ukrainian air defense is 70% successful. Lithuania is per capita one of the most generous donors to Ukraine. That is because Lithuania believes that if Russia is successful in Ukraine it may attack Lithuania. A significant minority of Lithuanian citizens are ethnically Russian. Zelensky announced he will visit Latvia and Estonia imminently. He is eager to convince EU states to pass the aid package that Hungary has vetoed. He also needs to keep Ukraine in people's minds. After almost 2 years of war, people are getting bored of the issue and are distracted by conflicts in Israel and the Red Sea.
