Zelensky visits Kherson

On November 13 the president visited the city that was recently retaken by Ukraine. He said that there is evidence of 400 war crimes committed by Russia. He said on TV this included murdered civilians. Zelensky said that Russian troops looted shops and even took zoo animals as well as laying mines. Ukrainian soldiers have been accidentally killed as they demine buildings. Workers are striving to get water, electricity, gas, phones and the internet working. There are many civilians walking around in Ukrainian flags. The stories about Russian soldiers donning civilian clothes to stay on and fight Ukrainians appear to have been false. It seems that Russian soldiers put on civilian clothes to pose as civilians as they crossed the river. The Ukrainian Army thought that civilians were leaving on pontoon bridges and therefore did not fire at them. Ukraine is controlling roads in and out of Kherson. The situation is tense because the Russians are just across the Dnipro River. The Russians are fortifying their positions. The Russians left behind some of their equipment in Kherson. Russians do not seem to be disheartened about the retreat from Kherson. It is significant that the army was able to convince Putin to order the retreat.Â
